Looking for an unforgettable African safari experience? Gorilla Bike Tours Rwanda invites you to explore the breathtaking landscapes and vibrant wildlife of Akagera National Park.
From the towering giraffes to the powerful lions, every moment in Akagera is a chance to connect with nature in its purest form.
Morning – Depart early from Kigali with your Gorilla Bike Tours guide for a scenic drive eastward to Akagera National Park (approx. 2.5 hours). Upon arrival at the park gates, enjoy a light breakfast and a briefing before beginning your adventure. You’ll embark on a thrilling game drive through the park’s diverse landscapes, from rolling savannahs to shimmering lakes. Expect to encounter elephants, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes, giraffes, and—if you’re lucky—the lions or elusive leopards.
Midday – Around noon, break for a picnic-style lunch at a designated viewpoint overlooking Lake Ihema or another scenic location. Relax and soak in the sights and sounds of Akagera’s wetlands and birdlife.
Afternoon – Continue the game drive through the southern section of the park, exploring the varied ecosystems that make Akagera so unique. This part of the park is especially good for spotting hippos and crocodiles in the water, as well as herds of impala and topi.
Evening – Begin your return journey to Kigali, arriving in the early evening. Depending on timing and guest interest, there may be a short stop en route for refreshments or a local craft market visit. Drop-off at your accommodation or Kigali city center.
This four-day journey is an unforgettable adventure through Rwanda’s most iconic landscapes. Starting in the vibrant capital city of Kigali, you’ll explore its rich culture and poignant history before heading deep into the Volcanoes National Park to encounter the majestic mountain gorillas.
The journey continues through lush forests, volcanic chains, and remote villages until you reach the shores of Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s Great Lakes. With expertly guided hikes, immersive cultural experiences, and breathtaking natural beauty, this safari offers a perfect blend of adventure, connection, and comfort.
Day 1 – For those arriving in the morning, we will pick you up from the airport and take you straight to Madrs hotel, your first night’s accommodation. There we will have breakfast and you will be able to freshen up. We will then take you on a tour of Kigali. You will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a harrowing experience but a must for any first-time visitor and then a visit to the Kinamba Community Project. In the evening, we’ll have dinner and brief you on the adventure ahead.
Day 2 – Kigali to Musanze. Today, should you choose to do so, you will be trekking into the jungle to spend time with some of the last remaining mountain gorillas on the planet. See more about the experience in the On the Move section of this brochure, not least because there are alternatives. Tonight is our second night spent in Musanze, with dinner at Susa Gardens.
Day 3 – Kinigi to Rubavu through Gishwati Forest. Our destination is Lake Kivu, one of the deepest lakes in the world and a Great Lake of Africa. To get there you will enjoy a magnificent ride along a chain of volcanoes, through bamboo forests, remote villages and banana plantations before stopping for lunch at the beautiful home of pardimahindr. From there it’s a thrilling descent and one last climb to reach Lake Kivu, where we will spend the night at Kivu Paradise.
Day 4 – Rubavu to Kigali. After spending the morning by Lake Kivu, we’ll depart for Kigali, stopping at Kiaka for shopping and Musanze for lunch. In Kigali, we’ll visit a women’s centre before enjoying a farewell dinner and your airport transfer.
